The Left still wants to reimpose the Censorship Doctrine – also mis-known as the “Fairness” Doctrine. But they now have even more weapons with which they can silence the Right.

And now they are seeking to expand their censorship to the internet, and beyond!

Obama’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) can use different regulations – like “localism” and “media diversity” - to achieve the exact same “Fairness” Doctrine-esque results – silencing the conservative and Christian talk radio hosts we love and count on every day.

FCC Commissioner Michael Copps says he believes the federal government in Washington, D.C. has a role in deciding what your "local interests" are – in your town on your local talk radio station – and wants to not renew their licenses based on what they think you need to hear.
 
Liberals and bureaucrats in Washington also seek to impose “media diversity” regulations - to force some station owners out and allow their hand-picked cronies in.

Copps has said that given the new political climate, "we have a tremendous opportunity going forward to reinvigorate our media, to ensure that the public airwaves truly deliver the kind of news and information that we need to sustain our democratic dialogue and to reflect the great diversity of our country."

And now the Left is even looking into regulating speech on the internet and even in print journalism. An FCC Notice of Inquiry – a possible first step in their rules-making process – entitled “The State of Media Journalism” examines traditional broadcast media as well as the rise of “new” media such as blogs and Internet news. And discusses ways to address issues such as the rise of media conglomerates and the prevalence of opinion journalism.

These government intrusions on free speech must be stopped.


MRC’s Free Speech Alliance -- with 69 organizations now involved -- seeks to build the largest possible grassroots Alliance army. So far, we have over 550,000 members, but we need the maximum number possible to go to war when free speech is threatened.

I am signing this petition to urge members of Obama's Federal Communications Commission (the FCC) and everyone in Washington to reject any and all efforts to censor, limit, or restrain free speech – on conservative or Christian talk radio, on the internet or anywhere else.

This includes through the antiquated FCC rule mis-known as the “Fairness” Doctrine – as well as backdoor “Fairness” Doctrine-type FCC regulatory powers such as enforcement of “localism,” “diversity in media ownership” and service of the “local” or “public interest.”

This also includes any attempt to regulate content of the internet or any other journalistic outlet.

Additionally, I am joining with other American citizens who want their individual free speech rights defended and protected from government intrusion! Our great nation was built upon free and open discourse, and to remain a great nation this ideal must be protected and preserved at all costs.

Please note that I will be watching closely and taking action when necessary to directly combat any censorship efforts as well as the liberal bias of the media.
